About Us:
In the 1930’s, some
community workers decided to experiment and create an environment that
would be beneficial towards the young adults in the community. This
community movement was called the Chicago Area Project or CAP. CAP was
started in the worst parts of Chicago to deter young adults from
participating in gang and other harmful activities. Slowly, the movement
grew and it turned out to be a successful experiment.
Since the Chicago Area Project was such a successful program. The
founders wanted to expand the movement into the other areas of Chicago.
Therefore they researched about other counties and discovered that this
program suited well for the DuPage Area. With the help of the community
members and the board of directors, the DuPage County Area Project or
DuCAP was created. This served the same goal as the Chicago Area Project
of enriching young adults lives and creating a better and safer
community.
Since then, the movement has greatly increased and thus has started the
Hanover Park Coalition Community Resource (HPCRC). Hanover Park
Coalition Community Resource (HPCRC) was founded in 2007 after branching
off from a fellow founding organization DuPage County Area Project (DuCAP).
HPCRC has become so successful through the efforts of DuCAP and Hanover
Park's community volunteers. Gayle Peneschi, HPCRC's Executive Director,
has worked in the Hanover Park Community for the last 4 years, building
a strong committee and now a board to assist in decisions for HPCRC. The
mission of the Hanover Park community organization is The Hanover Park
Community Resource Coalition (HPCRC) is an Illinois based 501 (c) 3 non-
profit organization that started in 2007 as a subsidiary of DuCAP. HPCRC
is a safe and supportive environment that provides multiple educational
resources to the youth and adults of our community through tutoring,
mentoring, and advocacy by trained and dedicated volunteers. HPCRC has
been affecting the youth and families in the Greenbrook and Springwood
school district and plan to expand into other areas as well.
